“You alone are the Lord. You made the skies and the heavens and all the stars. You made the earth and the seas and everything in them. You preserve them all, and the angels of heaven worship you."
-Nehemiah 9:6 (NLT)

Last time, we talked about Ezra and the king's decree for the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. The Book of Nehemiah is a continuation of Ezra's account.
Nehemiah was King Artaxerxes' cup bearer. Nehemiah was distressed that the city of Jerusalem was in ruins. The king allowed him to depart for a certain time, gave him official letters, and provided access to timber from the king's forest.
Rediscovering the Book of the Law of God led the people to confess their sins, remember what God had done for their ancestors, and agree to obey the Lord.
Nehemiah 9 recounts the miraculous things God did for the Israelites from the beginning, and starts with praise to the Creator of all.
Time and time again, the Bible supports itself. Nehemiah was written long after Genesis, but there's no denying that God is the Creator. Centuries later, the Apostle Paul would go on to refer to creation as well in his epistles.
We serve an awesome God! Even for those of us without Jewish ancestry, it's still incredible to see all God did for His chosen people throughout history. No matter how much they rebelled, God still loved them. When they confessed their sins, He brought good upon them again.
So I think the biggest takeaway from Nehemiah in the 21st century is to praise God for all He's done - for creating the world, for saving our sins, for providing time and time again.
What events from your families, friends, or personal life can you recall that were definitely orchestrated by God?
I'll never forget September 4, 2008, when my grandma went to the hospital. She had a full-body infection and the doctors didn't think she would make it.
That was an incredibly scary time. It was a school day and my brother and I had a dentist appointment. The only place I wanted to be was with my grandma, but we couldn't.
Thankfully, God did a miracle and restored my grandma's health. She still has some side effects from that sickness to this day, but there's no denying God's healing power.
I'm sure you have stories similar to this - whether they were about health, relationships, coming to know God, etc.
I think we need to keep telling these true stories of God's mighty works for generations to come. We can praise God even more powerfully when we acknowledge all He's done for those before us and around us.
