"Promise me, O women of Jerusalem, by the gazelles and wild deer, not to awaken love until the time is right."

-Song of Solomon 2:7 (NLT)

Song Credits: "I'll Wait for You" by Moriah Peters (feat. Joel Smallbone).

Song of Solomon is undoubtedly the most romantic book in the Bible. It is a beautiful song about the richness of expressing love within a marriage. But within it, the phrase "don't awaken love until the time is right" appears three different times. That's what we're going to focus on today.

It can be difficult to be single when it seems like everyone else has somebody. With Valentine's Day around the corner, it gets even harder. But, this verse is a reminder to wait for love.

I've heard many stories of people who rush into a relationship too soon because "they were lonely" or "everyone else was doing it". Most of the time, they ended in an unexpected pregnancy, abuse situation, or a similar result.

It's not easy to remain pure in a sex-infatuated society, but it's so worth it. God has beautiful plans for our lives, including our love life. When we wait for the person He wants us to be with, we can be spared from abusive or destructive relationships gone too far.

I've included the YouTube video "I'll Wait for You" by Moriah Peters. It tells the story of how she and her husband Joel Smallbone (of For King & Country) met. She even saved her first kiss for their wedding day.

I hope one day to have a love story as beautiful as theirs. Not everyone believes in waiting to kiss until marriage, but I think it makes the wedding more special.

So whether you're married or single, I think this concept still applies. When we wait for God's time and don't rush into love things will go better. Life won't be perfect, but we can avoid some mistakes by waiting.
